
Dishon Jackson and Milan Momcilovic scored 13 points apiece, and No. 8 Iowa State relied on a balanced attack to post a 79-65 win over Colorado in a Big 12 Conference matchup Tuesday night in Ames, Iowa.
Joshua Jefferson and Tamin Lipsey added 12 points apiece for Iowa State (21-5, 11-4 Big 12), which won its fourth game in a row. Nate Heise contributed 11 points and Curtis Jones scored seven.
Bangot Dak scored 20 points on 8-for-14 shooting to lead Colorado (10-16, 1-14). Harrison Carrington finished with 11 points off the bench, and Andrej Jakimovski scored 10 points.
Iowa State shot 51.1 percent (24 of 47) from the field and 47.6 percent (10 of 21) from 3-point range. Colorado shot 45.3 percent (24 of 53) overall and 23.5 percent (4 of 17) from deep.
Carrington made a tip shot to pull Colorado within 55-39 with 11:42 to play.
The Cyclones responded with an 8-0 run to seize a 63-39 advantage with 10:18 to go. Lipsey started the run with a 3-pointer, Jackson made a dunk and Jefferson drained a 3-pointer.
Colorado struggled to climb out of the deficit. The Buffaloes pulled back within 16 points after Carrington converted a three-point play with 6:35 remaining, but Iowa State increased its lead to 21 a couple minutes later on another 3-pointer by Lipsey.
Iowa State built a 45-28 lead at the half.
The Cyclones jumped to a 10-2 lead in the first five minutes. Heise finished the early burst of scoring with a 3-pointer off an assist from Lipsey.
After Colorado scored three points, Iowa State went on a 10-0 run to increase its lead to 20-5. Momcilovic tallied the final five points of the run with a 3-pointer and a pair of free throws.
Iowa State remained comfortably in front for the rest of the half. Lipsey made two free throws to boost the Cyclones’ advantage to 45-26 with 15 seconds left, and Julian Hammond III answered with a jump shot to cut the Buffaloes’ deficit to 17 points with three seconds to go.
