77 Ninth Ave, Rosebud, looks like the set of television show or film set in the 1960s.

A “groovy” Mornington Peninsula pad featuring funky floral wallpaper and a turquoise lounge is taking buyers back to the 1960s.

Jane and Mark Farrell purchased 77 Ninth Ave, Rosebud, in 2013 to use as a retreat.

They also rented out the two-bedroom house, located about 500m from the beach, for short stays before installing a full-time tenant.

Ms Farrell said the house still looked fairly similar to when she and her husband purchased it from a “lovely little old lady” who thought they would want to bulldoze it, but was delighted to discover this was not the plan.

Ms Farrell, who developed a passion for sixties style while growing up in the 1970s, said she fell in love with a teal and white tea canister set displayed in the house during inspections and was determined to acquire it.

“Basically, I paid $320,000 for some canisters,” Ms Farrell joked.

Dubbing their new digs “Miss Jane’s Retro Retreat”, the Farrells spent six months updating the home’s original charm but retained the polished timber flooring and wallpaper in the chequerboard-floor kitchen.

Ms Farrell decoupaged a wall in the outdoor toilet with 1960s women’s magazine pages and fitted the home with furniture from the decade, some of which will be available for purchase alongside the house.

The yellow dining table came from her childhood home and the red chairs surrounding it were supplied by her brother-in-law, from the family house he grew up in.

“By trade I’m a hairdresser and I always wanted to do up a shop or salon, it was just a dream and it all fell into place,” she said.

“Friends of my husband have said it’s like a museum.”

When the abode was available for short stays, Ms Farrell dressed up in sixties-esque overalls and a headscarf to clean the property.

The property, which boasts a wood heater in the second living room, brick alfresco area and lockup garage, is for sale via expressions of interest with a $670,000-$735,000 asking range.

Marshall White Mornington Peninsula director Adrian Calcedo said the backyard offered Arthurs Seat views.

“The home is groovy and retro, it reminds me of the Fonzie era (1950s-60s),” Mr Calcedo said.

He said the home was about 800m from Rosebud Primary School and around the corner from Rosebud Central.

Mr Calcedo said that if the new owners wanted to build a double storey home on the site, they would have bay views, pending council approval.

Expressions of interest close February 7.
