The Miami Marlins and right-hander Cal Quantrill agreed to terms on a one-year contract on Wednesday.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
Quantrill, who turned 30 on Monday, was a 15-game winner for Cleveland in 2022 before his fortunes changed over the last two seasons.
He posted a 4-7 record with a 5.24 ERA in 19 starts with the Guardians in 2023 and an 8-11 mark with a 4.98 ERA in 29 starts with the Colorado Rockies in 2024.
Quantrill is 43-34 with a 4.07 ERA in 161 career games (123 starts) with the San Diego Padres (2019-20), Guardians (2020-23) and Rockies (2024).
To make room for Quantrill on the roster, the Marlins placed left-hander Braxton Garrett on the 60-day injured list. He underwent revision surgery on the ulnar collateral ligament in his throwing elbow in December and will miss the entire 2025 season.
Garrett, 27, went 2-2 with a 5.35 ERA in seven starts for the Marlins last season before being placed on the injured list with a forearm flexor strain.
A first-round pick (No. 7 overall) by Miami in 2016, Garrett began the 2024 campaign on the IL with a left shoulder impingement and didn’t make his season debut until May 12.
Over parts of five seasons with the Marlins, Garrett is 16-19 with a 4.03 ERA in 65 games (63 starts) spanning 326 1/3 innings.
