Minnesota Wild star forward Kirill Kaprizov has resumed skating for the first time since surgery in late January to repair a lower-body injury.
“This is still truly the first step to getting back. Nothing imminent,” head coach John Hynes cautioned on Thursday.
Kaprizov, 27, remains week-to-week with 10 games left in the regular season. He will miss his 23rd consecutive game on Thursday night against the visiting Washington Capitals.
He was leading the Wild with 52 points (23 goals, 29 assists) through 37 games prior to the surgery. He also missed 12 games due to injury in late December and January before playing his most recent contest on Jan. 26.
The Calder Trophy recipient as the NHL’s top rookie in 2020-21, Kaprizov has totaled 382 points (183 goals, 199 assists) in 315 career games with the Wild.
