Grand National: Nick Rockett the Aintree hero for Willie and Patrick Mullins as trainer saddles a 1-2-3

Nick Rockett led home an incredible one-two-three for Willie Mullins in the Randox Grand National at Aintree.

Ridden by the trainer’s son, Patrick, the 33/1 shot Nick Rockett proved too strong for stablemate and defending champion I Am Maximus in the four-and-a-quarter-mile showpiece.

Grangeclare West took third to round out a clean sweep of the podium places for the Closutton team, who also had the fifth in Meetingofthewaters. Iroko was fourth for Oliver Greenall and Josh Guerriero.

The burden of top weight proved too much in the closing stages for I Am Maximus as Nick Rockett finished full of running to register not only back-to-back victories for the champion trainer, but also his third success 20 years after his first with Hedgehunter.
