The United States men’s national team has been eliminated from the CONCACAF Nations League for the first time ever after losing to Panama on a 94th-minute goal in the semifinal on Thursday at SoFi Stadium.
Cecilio Waterman, a striker for Chilean club Coquimbo Unido, scored the winner for Panama, and the 33-year-old celebrated by running over to his idol Thierry Henry, one of the greatest strikers of all time and a current analyst for CBS Sports.
This will mark the first time a team other than the U.S. will win the CONCACAF Nations League. The USMNT won all three previous editions.
It is also the first competitive match the U.S. has lost — and played — under new head coach Mauricio Pochettino. The USMNT’s next competitive match will be at the CONCACAF Gold Cup this summer.
This story will be updated.
