But he ultimately supported the idea of a southern competition, so his club’s standard Saturday journey would be a six-hour round trip to Halls Creek.
“It will be simpler for us, forwards and backwards, to save lots of gasoline, to return house … so much higher,” he said.
Mr West said football helped stop young men from getting caught in a cycle of alcohol and dysfunction.
“We would like help. We do not need individuals to get on the piss. We do not need that. We would like change. Preventing and all the things … we do not need it. We would like a great footy league,” Mr West said.
The AFL and state government are spending $5 million throughout the Kimberley to unearth extra soccer expertise and enhance administration and sub-standard services.
